The Aerie Trio was formed in 2018 to perform beautiful, challenging music across the ages. Some familiar, but just as often, seldom performed or new music ensures well rounded, interesting programs. From Haydn sonatas to Piazolla tangos, to 21st c premieres of new works, the trio presents exciting and delightful selections. The Aerie Trio recently performed a concert with on the ‘hat featuring music of living Canadian women composers. They currently present The Art of Harmonizing Music and Food with the best of Vancouver Island’s chefs. The members of the trio (Diane Berry, flute; Maria Wang, cello; and Kathryn Le Gros, piano and clarinet) are each accomplished and successful musicians who come together in a wonderful balance.

Tuba4 is the most unusual of the ensembles being a combination of 3 euphoniums and 1 tuba. They provide a range of musical styles with an unusual and beautiful sound. on the ‘hat is an ensemble of musical friends (Marnie Setka-Mooney, soprano; Diane Berry, flute; Kathryn Le Gros piano) that has performed together over many years, but just in the last few years under this name. The name of the group recognizes that the Malahat is a connector for the members; Marnie lives in Lake Cowichan, Kathryn in Victoria’s Westshore and Diane in the Mount Douglas area of Victoria. Some of their earliest performances were concerts of contemporary classical music, and have come back to that even recently with a performance of Canadian women composers. During Covid they performed live-streamed events celebrating Advent and Lent, as well as a feature video. While all three are classical musicians, their love of the music of a variety of genres has meant they each have played with other ensembles specializing in jazz, folk, and even oldies rock. They now bring that eclectic mix together in their programs.

Broke and Blue (Diane Berry, flute; Kathryn Le Gros, piano; Ryan Tandy, bass) return to Church of the Advent to open their 2025-26 season of jazz vespers. Jazz Vespers is a modern worship service that combines the traditional evening prayer service of Vespers with the musical genre of jazz. It's an informal and relaxed service often featuring local jazz musicians and includes elements like readings, prayers, and reflections alongside the music.

Featuring music by Claude Bolling and jazzed up versions of familiar classical music. Come to this exclusive, ticketed event that allows early access to the 2025 artworks before the show opens to the public the next day.

Join us for a night of Contemporary Classical Music composed and performed by Aerie Trio with a 6-course Tasting menu, created be Chef Boateng.

Aerie Trio combines the rich, beautiful sounds of flute, cello and piano, played by three accomplished, classical musicians. Diane Berry on flute; Maria Wang on cello; and Kathryn LeGros on piano, bringing their love of chamber music to life with works ranging from the 18th century through to the 21st. In their performance at HOB Fine Foods, they will be premiering a set of pieces, written by Diane Berry specifically for this occasion. These pieces and the menu created by Chef Castro Boateng, are inspired by the many wonderful places on Vancouver Island, the beaches, the rainforest, the Garry Oak meadows and other of the island’s hidden gems.

Connect with the women composers who live and work in our community, and be introduced to contemporary classical music. The stunning venue at the Ward Room in Esquimalt with a beautiful view has a relaxed, intimate atmosphere, where audience members will be invited to stay and talk to the composers and performers following the performance.

This is the third time that Augmented Trio Promotions has presented a concert of Canadian women composers; the first for a live streamed concert during COVID, the second featured music by Leila Lustig and Diane Berry. We hope to do more in the future! These performance are strengthening the collaborations between the composers and performers, leading to music being composed specifically for us, and us selecting music by these composers for performances.

This concert will include the premiere of Leila Lustig's piece Glacier, which has been written specifically for Kathryn Le Gros and Diane Berry.

The Sooke Fine Arts Show provides the opportunity for the finest artists from Vancouver Island and BC’s coastal islands to showcase and sell their work each summer. The Show is Vancouver Island’s longest-running juried fine art show.
