Sept 27, 2025 – Sidney Brass, two trumpets, French horn and trombone and a tuba performing traditional classics through to the popular and everything in between,
Oct 25 – Broke and Blue, an intoxicating fusion of jazz and classical styles for flute, piano and bass
Nov 22 – the Bald Eagles play rock, country-rock and other great tunes mostly from the Sixties and Seventies
Dec 27 – Lust Life Jazz Band, warm up for New Year’s with some jazz rooted in the Great American Songbook and infused with Latin, blues, funk, swing, soul, and pop. Trumpet, vocals, bass and guitar
Jan 24, 2027 – Heather Ferguson and Friends, beautiful vocal jazz standards with just a dash of fresh and new
Feb 28 – Aerie Trio, evocative classical music both old and new for flute, cello and piano
Mar 22 – Tuba4, expect the unexpected, all kinds of music and all down low
Apr 25 – on the ‘hat, jazz standards and contemporary classical music share the stage with voice, flute and piano

Sidney Brass, Sep 27, 2026
traditional classics through to the popular and everything in between. Two trumpets, french horn, trombone and a tuba
Sidney Brass was formed in 2019 when a tuba player realized that there were some excellent brass players living in Sidney and growing tired of commuting to Victoria for rehearsals and concerts. Since then some members left town to a military band and the Manila Philharmonic and were replaced with other local musicians.
The quintet performs regularly at seniors’ homes, the Festival of Lights, Music in the Park and was the opening act when Marcelito Pomoy, an America’s Got Talent finalist performed at the Mary Winspear Centre.
You can expect to hear traditional brass quintet classics as well as some Dixieland, ragtime, blues and the occasional March.
Broke and Blue, oct 25, 2026
an intoxicating fusion of jazz and classical styles
Broke and Blue came together when pianist Kathryn Le Gros and flutist Diane Berry first discovered their mutual love of the music of French jazz pianist, Claude Bolling (1930-2020). With two suites for flute and jazz piano and California Suite, as well as other single pieces, there is a rich choice of wonderful music available to them. Bolling’s fusion of classical and jazz elements in his work is a wonderful vehicle for these two classically trained, versatile musicians. Both are experienced performers, connected to many ensembles in and around Victoria, embracing a number of different genres and styles. In the years since forming Broke and Blue, they have performed for jazz vespers in local churches, created videos for Vancouver Symphony’s Day of Music, performed at Hermann’s Jazz Club, Sooke Fine Arts Show, Unsworth Winery, Merridale Cidery, corporate functions, and live-streamed a concert for Augmented Trio Promotions. They are often joined by bassist Ryan Tandy and various local drummers to realize the full jazz sound. Their repertoire now includes music by Moe Koffman, Dave Brubeck, Ian Clarke and some well-known jazz standards.

The Bald Eagles is a band that specializes in music for dances but play in many other settings as well. They have played at markets, in halls, at clubs and outdoor events. The high energy, fun loving Bald Eagles entertains with a mix of classic rock, folk, and country tunes that will get everyone bouncing in their seat.

Since its beginnings in 1994, the group has evolved from a classic jazz ensemble into a genre-blending collective that celebrates musical artistry without boundaries.
At the heart of Lust Life is a deep respect for the jazz tradition. The Great American Songbook provides a rich foundation, but the band's sound reaches far beyond it—drawing inspiration from Latin rhythms, blues, swing, jump jazz, funk, pop, soul, and contemporary grooves. With a voice that balances elegance and emotional power, she brings energy and nuance to her songs, both those she writes herself and the jazz standards she loves to interpret. As a performer and recording artist, she is becoming a compelling presence within contemporary audiences.
Aerie Trio, Feb 28, 2027
Evocative classical music both old and new, featuring flute, cello and piano
The Aerie Trio was formed in 2018 to perform beautiful, challenging music across the ages. Some familiar, but just as often, seldom performed or new music ensures well rounded, interesting programs. From Haydn sonatas to Piazolla tangos, to 21st c premieres of new works, the trio presents exciting and delightful selections. The Aerie Trio recently performed a concert with on the ‘hat featuring music of living Canadian women composers. They currently present The Art of Harmonizing Music and Food with the best of Vancouver Island’s chefs. They have a recently released CD: Water, Rock, Tree, Sky available through all streaming platforms.
The members of the trio (Diane Berry, flute; Maria Wang, cello; and Kathryn Le Gros, piano and clarinet) are each accomplished and successful musicians who come together in a wonderful balance.

Tuba4 is the most unusual of the ensembles being a combination of 3 euphoniums and 1 tuba. They provide a range of musical styles with an unusual and beautiful sound. The arrangements of familiar and interesting music allow the ensemble to showcase their individual talent and meld their instruments into one stunning sound. They have fun playing, and those that hear them get captured in their joy.

Jazz standards with an unusual flutey twist and some contemporary classical music – specialize in music by local women composers[
on the ‘hat is an ensemble of musical friends (Marnie Setka-Mooney, soprano; Diane Berry, flute; Kathryn Le Gros piano) that has performed together for a number of recitals and concerts in the last few years. The name of the group recognizes that the Malahat is a connector for the members; Marnie lives in Lake Cowichan, Kathryn in the Westshore and Diane in the Mount Douglas area. Some of their earliest performances were concerts of contemporary classical music, particularly that of Leila Lustig, and Diane Berry. More recently, they created BeMused, a concert featuring 4 Canadian Women composers, that was performed at the Canadian Music Centre in Vancouver and the Ward Room in Esquimalt. They have performed live and live-streamed events celebrating Advent and Lent, as well as in a full concert video during covid. While all three are classical musicians, their love of the music of a variety of genres has meant they each have played with other ensembles specializing in jazz, folk, and even oldies rock. They now bring that eclectic mix together in their programs.
